Hello everyone and welcome back to The Reality of Living on Campus. I am almost done with my first year at Thompson Rivers University, and that means finals are coming. In today’s video, I will be showing you my studying process and how I prepare for my finals exams. Let’s get to it!
When I first start studying, I like to prioritize and organize what I have to do. Since it is the last week of classes, I do have a few assignments left that I will finish up and then I will get right into my finals.
So this is what my to do list looks like. I have all my assignments at the top that are in order of due date and then I have my finals at the bottom.
The thing that works best for me when I am studying is prioritizing what I want to get done and I just let myself take as much time as I need to do it. For less important tasks, I will set a time frame for it.
Taking brain breaks is super important when studying. You don’t want to cram everything in your brain, take some time, go get a snack, go for a walk or even take a nap. Anything is better than just trying to get everything done as quickly as possible.
My second tip for studying for finals is to get out of the house. This eliminates procrastination and it helps overall with my studying.
Interview
Emma: What is your name and what program are you in?
Haley C: My name is Haley and I’m in the BTM program (Bachelors of Tourism Management).
Angelina: My name is Angelina and I am in the BTM program.
Emma: How do you study for final exams?
Haley: I am a person who really enjoys repetition, so I will go through the lecture slides a few times. Depending on what style of course it is, if it is more math based, I will do a lot of practice questions but if it is more essay and lecture based then I just write it out.
Angelina: For finals I like to get together with classmates and have open discussion about course material.
Emma: Any advice for students who are stressed out with finals?
Haley: I would say to take breaks, don’t think that you have to do it all in one go. Do a little bit here, go on a walk, do some chores, come back to it.
Angie: I think planning ahead is really helpful in studying for finals, prioritizing which ones you need to study more for or what day/time they are at, I think it really helps.
Emma: After a long day of studying, my favorite thing to do is come home and take a nice hot shower. After studying, this is just a good way to reset for me and not always focus on my classes. And after my showers, I always brush my teeth and blow dry my hair so I can go right to bed. So this is my final tip which is to get a good night’s sleep.
Sleeping is a good way to have another brain reset so you can wake up the next day and continue studying for your finals
That is what studying as a university student is like for me, come back next week for more Reality of Living on Campus!
